The HEART of mexico
For half a century, the San Miguel Community Foundation (SMCF) has been at the heart of generosity in San Miguel de Allende.
Founded in 1976, we’ve partnered with donors, nonprofits, and community leaders to respond to urgent needs, strengthen local institutions, and ensure that the most vulnerable among us are never forgotten. Every donation we steward supports underfunded organizations that focus on dignity, equity, and long-term resilience.
Today, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to bridging communities and fostering collaboration. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive San Miguel.

For five years, the Tikkun Center for Ecology has been restoring food and water security in San José de Gracia. When our reservoir restoration project ran out of funding, the San Miguel Community Foundation stepped in and saw it through — not just once, but again for a second community project in Los Torres.
That’s what SMCF does best: identify local initiatives that make an outsized difference and help them succeed. Their responsive support and transparent stewardship make donor contributions both immediate and enduring in their impact.

The generous support of the San Miguel de Allende Community Foundation made it possible for us to complete the post-production of our educational short film “Tras el Velo,” which addresses the critical issue of unhealthy relationships. This film has become a fundamental educational tool in our outreach work, helping to raise awareness and foster dialogue in schools and community settings.
In addition, the Foundation’s grant for educational materials has strengthened our ability to extend the impact of the project. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and commitment to meaningful community initiatives.

The San Miguel Community Foundation plays a vital role in ensuring that nonprofits like ours can serve with dignity and excellence. Their funding allowed us to purchase essential computers, printers, and a vehicle that enables our medical team to reach patients throughout San Miguel.
Thanks to the foundation’s support, we were able to build a new Palliative Care Center, which now provides compassionate medical support, end-of-life care, and counseling to patients and families. SMCF’s commitment to accountability and compassion ensures that donor gifts directly translate into patient care and community well-being.

Each year, Casita Linda transforms lives by providing safe, dignified homes to families living in poverty. The San Miguel Community Foundation has been one of our most trusted allies, ensuring that every donor dollar translates into concrete, lasting results.
With SMCF’s partnership, we’ve been able to focus on what matters most: helping families move from survival to stability. Their careful stewardship and deep community roots make them an invaluable bridge between donors and grassroots organizations like ours.

Since 2012, EEESMA School for the Deaf has ensured that all San Miguel de Allende children who are Deaf become literate, independent, and productive citizens who set and achieve life goals. The San Miguel Community Foundation has provided crucial financial assistance to provide much needed laptops, hearing devices, and a grant to fund our new passenger van, which safely transports 13 students from rural areas to school each day — opening the door to consistent education, language acquisition, and independence.
SMCF’s thorough oversight and understanding of local needs give donors confidence that their contributions create real, measurable impact in children’s lives.

The San Miguel Community Foundation has offered more than financial support — it has shown trust in our mission and belief in our students’ potential.
With SMCF’s help, we completed a rainwater cistern that now provides clean water and teaches environmental stewardship. Their latest grant for a computer-assisted cutting machine will enhance our carpentry program, allowing students to design and build with greater precision and creativity.
At Valle las Nubes, we provide a home, education, and technical training for youth from vulnerable backgrounds. SMCF’s partnership turns opportunity into transformation — proving that when a community believes, dreams become possible.

The San Miguel Community Foundation’s support has been vital to Casa Hogar Santa Julia Don Bosco’s mission of caring for, protecting, and empowering girls and teenagers in vulnerable situations.
Thanks to SMCF’s partnership, our work continues to transform lives and provide real opportunities to those who need them most. Their commitment ensures that every donation reaches where it matters — helping us create a safe, nurturing environment where young women can heal, grow, and thrive.

Thanks to SMCF’s generous support, we’ve been able to make our dream of a dedicated learning and community center a reality. This safe, welcoming space allows children and families to learn, grow, and belong.
Their partnership has strengthened our mission to nurture creativity, connection, and lifelong learning in our community.

Thanks to support from SMCF, our music program has been able to grow in ways we once only imagined. With their grant, we purchased new percussion instruments — bongos, a Peruvian cajón, music stands, guitars, string kits, tuners, and picks — giving our students the tools to continue learning and practicing rhythmic reading, solfege, and musical interpretation.
Each class now resonates with new sounds and energy. Because of SMCF’s generosity, more children in San Miguel de Allende can discover the joy of music and develop their talents in a creative, supportive environment.

Thanks to the generous support of the SMCF, our department was able to purchase a new 2024 Nissan Frontier 4×4, now proudly serving as our First Forest Intervention Unit. Since entering service, this vehicle has been vital in protecting lives, property, and the environment across San Miguel de Allende.
In just its first months of operation, we’ve responded to more than 1,400 emergencies, including nearly 1,000 grassland and forest fires, over 300 special services such as wildlife rescues and school prevention talks, and 127 LP gas leak incidents. Together, these efforts have helped safeguard more than two million hectares of vulnerable land.
SMCF’s support has helped empower us to serve with greater reach, readiness, and resilience.

For more than forty years, So Others May Eat (SOME) has served weekly meals to elderly, low-income residents of San Miguel de Allende, nourishing both body and spirit.
Thanks to support from the SMCF, which funded an entire year’s supply of chicken, we’ve been able to provide nutritious, home-cooked meals while fostering a deep sense of belonging and joy.
SOME is far more than a food program. It’s a celebration of life. In just two years, our weekly gatherings have grown from 70 to over 120 guests. As one attendee recently said, ‘My knees hurt, but I love to come here to sing, pray, and eat delicious food. I don’t want to miss a Wednesday.’ This is what community looks like. The Foundation’s support makes it possible

Over the years, San Miguel Community Foundation has been a good friend and supporter of the
Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende, A.C. Thanks to SMCF, our on-site clinic has been enhanced so that the S.P.A. has been able to provide high-quality services and care to our own animals and to those in the community.
Through SMCF grants, we created a separate isolation annex for animals about to have surgery or recovering from surgery, acquired a gas anesthesia machine, an X-ray machine, which was later transformed into a digital X-ray system, set up an adjustable consultation table to ease animals into examination by our veterinarian, and obtained many medical and surgical supplies. SMCF helped us improve the housing and daily living circumstances for our cats and dogs. We are grateful for SMCF’s compassion, understanding, and generosity.
